Language Mismatch in DBird Dual — How to Fix It

Published October 2026 · 2 min read

DBird Dual reads the captions your meeting platform generates and translates them. For correct translation, both need to be in the same language.

How It Works

DBird does not listen to your microphone. It reads the built-in captions that your platform (Teams, Google Meet, or Zoom) generates automatically from the speaker's voice.

Those captions come out in a specific language — whatever the platform detected from the speaker. DBird then takes that text and translates it into your chosen translation language.

The Meeting Language in the DBird Extension tells DBird what language to expect those captions in. If they don't match, the translation will be wrong or won't work at all.

The Simple Fix

Open the DBird Extension popup and set the Meeting Language to match the language of the captions your platform is showing — not the language you want to translate into, but the language the captions are already in.

✅ Example: Your meeting is in German. Teams captions show German text. Set DBird Meeting Language to German. DBird will then translate from German into your chosen language correctly.

Microsoft Teams

Teams generates captions automatically from what the speaker says. The caption language depends on the spoken language detected by Teams — you can check or change it in More (···) → Language and speech → Caption settings. Make sure your DBird Meeting Language matches what Teams is captioning in.

Google Meet

Google Meet auto-detects the spoken language and captions accordingly. You can verify the caption language in More options → Settings → Captions. Set your DBird Meeting Language to match.

Zoom

Zoom generates captions from the spoken audio. You can check the caption language in Captions → Caption Settings during the meeting. Make sure your DBird Meeting Language is set to the same language.
